Travelling
Gary and Pauline on Their Elephants
This quarter we spent a month
(essentially the month of November)
touring Thailand,
Cambodia and Myanmar
(aka Burma).
The highlight of our trip was being
“elephant owner for a day”
at the
Patara Elephant Farm
in the hills above Chiang Mai,
Thailand.
So far,
Gary has managed to cull out the 1,000 best photos and will probably spend
another month picking out a small number to post to the web.
We arrived home from southeast Asia on December 6 with terrible colds
and major jet lag
(due to the 10½ hour time difference)
to the realization we had done absolutely no preparation for the Christmas
season.
We only managed to send out a few Christmas cards,
primarily to people who do not have eMail.
Fortunately,
we did not have a big crowd for Christmas this year.
There was plenty of fresh powder Christmas morning so we headed out to
ski and finally opened presents just before dinner.
Pictured at Christmas dinner from left to right are friends
Pat, Terri and Dennis,
then Gary and Pauline,
followed by Ali (Arthur's girlfriend),
Arthur,
Paul and Xue
(Paul's girlfriend).
See Pauline's Christmas letter
here.
This was a bountiful year for hunting.
While we were in southeast Asia,
friend Ken killed two elk,
one a 6-pointer with a busted point,
the other a cow.
Caretaker Dan also got a cow.
Since we were away we could not help with recovery,
but we are told two of the kills were very difficult to retrieve.
